When To Go
November to March
This period marks the northwest monsoon season, characterized by warm, humid conditions and higher rainfall. The wettest months are November through January, with January experiencing the heaviest rain, averaging 356mm. Despite the rain, showers are usually brief and followed by sunshine, making it suitable for travelers who don’t mind occasional downpours. Temperatures during this period range from 25°C to 31°C, with high humidity levels, and the sea is generally calm, making November to March an excellent time for fishing and enjoying the lush, green landscape.
April to May
The first transition period between monsoons features calm seas, warm temperatures (averaging 26°C to 31°C), and lower rainfall compared to earlier months. This period is ideal for snorkeling, diving, and island hopping, as visibility underwater can exceed 30 meters (100 feet). The weather is also slightly less humid, and the beaches are serene, with fewer tourists compared to peak seasons.
June to August
Influenced by the southeast trade winds, this season brings cooler and drier conditions. Rainfall drops significantly, with July being the driest month, averaging just 45mm of rain. This period offers the most sunshine, up to 8.5 hours per day, and temperatures range from 24°C to 29°C, accompanied by steady breezes. The winds can make the seas choppier, which is perfect for windsurfing and sailing, but less ideal for diving. The lower humidity and dry conditions also make it a great time for hiking and exploring Seychelles' nature trails.
September to October
This second transition period offers a similar experience to April and May, with warm weather, reduced rainfall, and calmer seas. Temperatures hover around 25°C to 30°C, and these months are popular for snorkeling, diving, and birdwatching, as October coincides with migratory bird season. Rainfall begins to increase slightly in October (135mm), but it remains a great time for outdoor activities and island exploration.
Summary Recommendations
Best Overall Period: April to May
Warm temperatures, calm seas, and exceptional underwater visibility make this ideal for snorkeling, diving, and island hopping. Fewer crowds and serene beaches enhance the experience.
Alternative: June to August
Cooler, drier weather with steady breezes perfect for hiking, windsurfing, and enjoying long sunny days. Lower humidity and lush landscapes add to its charm.
Avoid if Possible: Late November to January
The wettest months with high humidity, though rain showers are brief and often followed by sunshine. Suitable for travelers seeking lush greenery and calm seas despite occasional downpours.
