When To Go
December to February
Winter in Jordan brings cooler temperatures, ranging from 5°C to 15°C during the day, with significantly colder nights, especially in the desert regions of Wadi Rum. Rainfall is infrequent but can occur, adding a lushness to certain areas like Amman and the northern hills. Petra remains accessible and less crowded, providing a unique opportunity to explore this iconic site without the usual throngs of visitors. Travelers should be prepared for chilly conditions, particularly in the evenings, and pack accordingly. Despite the cooler weather, winter offers a peaceful and more intimate experience of Jordan’s cultural and natural treasures.
March to May
Spring is one of the best times to visit Jordan, with mild and pleasant temperatures ranging from 15°C to 28°C. The countryside comes alive with blooming wildflowers, particularly in regions like Dana Biosphere Reserve and Ajloun Forest. This season is perfect for outdoor activities, such as hiking, exploring Petra, or trekking through Wadi Mujib. The days are warm and sunny without the intense heat of summer, while the evenings remain comfortably cool, making it an ideal period for exploring Jordan’s natural and historical landmarks. Popular tourist sites like Petra and Wadi Rum are bustling but not overwhelmingly crowded, ensuring a vibrant yet manageable experience.
June to August
Summer in Jordan is characterized by intense heat, especially in desert areas like Wadi Rum and near the Dead Sea, with daytime temperatures often soaring between 30°C and 40°C. However, early mornings and late evenings are cooler and more bearable, allowing for some outdoor activities during these times. While the heat can be challenging, this season offers its own appeal, such as fewer crowds at major attractions and the opportunity to enjoy tranquil experiences in less-visited areas. Staying hydrated, wearing sun protection, and planning activities around the cooler parts of the day are essential for making the most of a summer trip.
September to November
Autumn mirrors the pleasant conditions of spring, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 28°C. This is another ideal time to visit Jordan, as the weather is mild, and the landscapes begin to shift from the dry summer hues to a softer, golden palette. The cooler temperatures make it perfect for exploring historical sites like Jerash and Petra, as well as for taking extended hikes through Wadi Mujib or Dana Reserve. Tourist crowds are moderate, and the overall atmosphere is welcoming, offering a harmonious blend of comfort and activity for travelers.
